Practice nurse and health visitor pay increases 10%

The NHS information centre said the pay of a practice nurse in band 6 has increased to 33,800 while a health visitor in band 7 is now earning 38,800.

Latest figures from the body show that average nurse income rose by 9.6% in the year to September 2008 to reach 33,100.

Unqualified nurse income increased even faster by over 10% from 17,900 to 19,700.

GP vascular assessments piloted in London

40 surgeries in Westminster PCT will identify patients on their registers who have a greater than a 20% risk of developing cardiovascular disease. Those deemed to be at risk of CVD will be referred to a 16-week nurse-led programme of exercise and heath advice.

Health minister defends practices on exception reporting

Speaking in Parliament last week, she said: ‘The overall exception rate for England reduced from 5.83% in 2006/7 to 5.26% in 2007/8.
