Health visitors back industrial action over pay deal

A joint meeting of Unite/CPHVA’s health sector national industrial committee will take place tomorrow to agree the form action will take.

Members voted three-to-one to take part in industrial action. There was a 53% vote in favour of strike action with 45% against.

Unite/CPHVA said the action would start before Christmas but that the welfare of patients and clients would be paramount.

Slowing medical CPI may not last

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that Medical CPI is only 3.2%.  This is less than the 4.1% average inflation rate over the past ten years and the 6.0% average medical inflation rate over the past 30 years.  In most markets, a slowing economy reduces demand and reduces prices (see the recent decline in oil prices).  With the economic slowdown, will medical care get cheaper soon?

Exercise training cuts cardiovascular risk by 15%

Previous studies looking at the benefits of exercise in HF patients have been inconclusive and have lacked safety data.

This latest study, called ACTION, involved 1,159 patients who were randomly assigned to exercise training and 1,172 patients who did not exercise but had moderate physical activity.
